Discussion Digital camera recommendations please, budget = $1,000

Hi All,

Going on a trip in 2 weeks would like to get a new digital camera, main usage (in priority):
1. Still pics
2. Movies
3. Panoramic pics
4. Sports pics

Budget = $1,000 although would be nice to keep it sub $500.

What would you recommend please?

Also, what would be a tripod that would go nicely with the camera?
