Looking for upgrade advice...My system is

Would like to upgrade just MB,Ram,CPU With path to PS and graphics later. Play most games 1080p and know 2060 is long in tooth...also keep case..mother board is ATX. Would like to sta intel but open to AMD if suggested and price is right. possibly sub 500 usd or less preferable. any advice would be appreciated

Rolands list slightly tweaked to get it sub 500, the 7700x is a good option.

Intel is behind on gaming with their latest gen, vs even their own 13th and 14th gen, that have issues with degradation. You could go 12th gen, but you would get an inferior, dead, platform. It doesn't save you much either, unless you choose DDR4.

LGA 1700 could be an option, but honestly AM5 is the better bet. AM5 has cpu support until 2027, and the cpu's have better performance, run cooler, and use less power, where as LGA 1700 is already EOL. Theres also Intels newest platform, LGA 1851, but those chips are a mixed bag, and is also EOL as intel will be replacing it in their next generation. They are still not as cool running or efficient as AM5 cpu's, and they're not the best gaming chips, often getting beaten by intel's own offerings in LGA 1700. That said, they're good for productivity work if thats mainly what you do.

Thanks ..in my reading seems like amd..is on the ball...with Intel lagging would rather go newer platform and DDR 5 memory..so down the road I could get an upgrade from my rtx 2060.....seems like it's gonna be amd. Thanks everyone..things are clearer now..
